Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park

After a beautiful Saturday watching sail boats from our site we left Belfast Sunday and took the short trip to Mt. Desert Island.  Instead of trying to stay at Bar Harbor Campground where you cannot make reservations I decided to stay at Narrows Too RV Resort which is across the causeway from the island in Trenton.  It definitely does not have the setting like we had at Belfast but it is level, wide and great satellite reception.  From here we have explored Acadia National Park some utilizing our Golden Age Passport as well as Bar Harbor and surrounding communities.

One day we went up to Ellsworth to do some shopping, particularly to order some new glasses for Helga.  We had lunch at the Riverside Cafe, a very popular downtown cafe.  We never could figure out where the river was though.  We explored Bar Harbor downtown a few times and had lunch at the Lompoc Cafe which was named after Lompoc, CA in Santa Barbara County,  go figure!

On Thursday Kevin, Stephanie and Erin arrived and are staying at Mt. Desert Campground about ten minutes from us.  We've been getting together for some meals and fun times.  We had a great breakfast at 2 Cats one day and another good one at Jordan's the next day.  Jordan's is famous for the blueberry pancakes and the staff's attitude.  2 Cats usually requires long waits and slow service but they really have wonderful food.  Yesterday we went out on a schooner, the Margaret Todd, on a beautiful day.  Today the kids went on a hike and we met them at the Jordan Pond House for lunch and popovers.  We then gave them a ride to their car and were impressed on how far they had hiked.  We also had a couple of great dinners.  One was at the XYZ in Southwest Harbor which is a classy and good Mexican restaurant.  The other was at the Town Hill Bistro in Town Hill which only has twelve tables and served a great meal.


Tuesday we say goodbye to the kids and Mt. Desert Island and start our trek West.
