Family fun and the Carolina coasts!

Grammie with Erin the "Fish"
We had a wonderful two weeks visiting with Stephanie, Kevin and Erin.  They live in Pennington, New Jersey which is near Princeton.  Because of a lack of RV parking near their home we stayed in Hatfield, Pennsylvania, about an hour away.  Besides visiting back and forth, we stayed over a long weekend at their house.

Erin is quite the swimmer.  We observed one of her practice sessions in which she did lap after lap even though she was fighting a head cold.  She has done quite well in competition.  With them living so far away it was great being able to spend some time together.

The ponies of Assateague Island
We left them on Sunday, September 29, and headed to Berlin, Maryland, near Ocean City where we stayed three nights at Castaways RV Resort.  Ocean City, a busy beach town in the summer, was quiet but offered some interesting sights and places to eat.  The highlight of the stay was visiting Assateague Island National Seashore the day before the federal government shutdown.

Looking for seashells on the Outer Banks, Waves, NC
On Wednesday, we headed further south, across Chesapeake Bay Bridge and Tunnel (at $28.00 toll!) to the Outer Banks of North Carolina.  We stayed three nights in Waves at Ocean Waves Campground enjoying the beach and getting to know some Carolinans who regularly vacation there.

Sandpiper and friend
After a one night stop at the KOA in New Bern, NC we arrived at Ocean Lakes Family Campground in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.  This place is a city in itself with over 3000 campsites and homes.  It is also on the beach, part of the Grand Strand, which offers good opportunities for Helga's seashell hunting.  When we first got here, the remnants of what was Hurricane Karen, which ended up a tropical depression, soaked the area.  Myrtle Beach stretches out for miles and has expanded so much over the years.  We have found some nice places to eat, mostly thanks to Yelp and TripAdvisor.

Seashell hunting on Myrtle Beach
We'll be leaving on Sunday and heading towards Red Bay, Alabama, where we will most likely be for several weeks, waiting to get some warranty work done at the Tiffin factory.  Not exactly looking forward to this part of our adventure!!!!
