We're in Lincoln, Nebraska in the Great Plains. Yesterday evening was quite eventful, in a strange way. Born in the middle of earthquake country in Santa Barbara and living there most of my life I experienced a few of those, albeit quite a while back. We've experienced thunderstorms and tornado watches, and warnings, before on our travels.
There was a 30% chance of severe thunderstorms here yesterday during the day and in the evening. The daytime event was a non-event with it getting very dark and cloudy for a while. The evening was another story. It got very dark and then started to rain. Then it started to blow. Then it started to hail. The weather radio alarm went off many times extending the period of severe thunderstorms and continuing the tornado watch. Finally after several hours the wind, rain and hail let up and the clouds went away and it got lighter outside.
Experiencing the above in a motor home is quite interesting. They tell you to head for a storm shelter if it turns into a tornado warning. Of course we didn't want to get wet running across the RV park to the storm shelter but I guess that would have been the better choice. One year we were in Branson, Missouri when there was a warning and we headed to the laundry room structure and were the only ones there with our little Shih Tzu, Ollie for quite a while and feeling pretty foolish. After a bit people started streaming in, filling up the place with the wind blowing trees limbs off, etc. We missed the tornado itself, thank God, but it was quite an experience.
At least, with tornadoes you do get a warning of sorts which you don't get with an earthquake.
Before I sign off, I must tell you about driving across town yesterday before the weather hit. We ate at the Parthenon and had the best Greek food we've had in a while. We both had Gyros platters with Greek Potatoes which were excellent. We started by sharing a plate of spanikopita and tyropita which was quite good. A cold bottle of Heineken hit the spot. We split a Half-dipped Chocolate Baklava for dessert. Helga thought it was too sweet and I thought it was great, getting about 3/4ths of it!
